The standard issue LAPD sidearm is the "American Eagle" .50 AEA, a semi-automatic anti-materiel handgun that has been in service since 2013. It replaced the previous standard issue, the [[World War 3]] surplus "Thunderbolt" .45 HCA, after the annual LAPD budget was raised by 12.8 billion [[dollar]]s in 2012. The American Eagle is most commonly loaded with blunt-force iridium "tetsubo" rounds, legally considered non-lethal due to the lack of accepted evidence that they do anything but mildly aggravate pre-existing cases of massive body trauma and blood loss. However, as the individual situation requires, it can also take enriched uranium "demon core" rounds or armor-piercing serrated "bonesaw" rounds.

The Light Armored Police Department (LAPD) is the primary law enforcement agency in Hollywood. The LAPD gets its name from the light body armor worn by its members, which is good for stopping most small arms fire. Under almost all circumstances this armor is unnecessary, as the LAPD also has numerous heavily armored vehicles at its disposal and believes in excessive force as a first resort.

History

The present-day LAPD was formed out of the remains of the former Los Angeles Police Department in the months after the Battle of Los Angeles. Also folded into the new police department were several private militias, the local divisions of the United States military, and a chapter of boy scouts who had gotten accidentally included in one of the government memos. The new LAPD was given extensive powers to enforce the reformed and poorly-worded laws of Hollywood, a position they have steadfastly abused for almost a century.
