The Light Armored Police Department (LAPD) is the primary law enforcement agency in Hollywood. The LAPD gets its name from the light body armor worn by its members, which is good for stopping most small arms fire. Under most circumstances this armor is unnecessary, as the LAPD also has numerous heavily armored vehicles at its disposal and believes in excessive force as a first resort.
The present-day LAPD was formed out of the remains of the former Los Angeles Police Department in the months after the Battle of Los Angeles. Also folded into the new police department were several private militias, the local United States military, and a chapter of boy scouts who had gotten accidentally included in one of the government memos. The new LAPD was given extensive powers to enforce the reformed laws of Hollywood.
