Acme Laboratories

Acme Laboratories (often shortened to Acme Labs) is a pseudoscientific research institute based out of Schnooklyn, Toon Town. Its stated purpose is to "answer the questions that nobody was asking" and it attempts to do so through numerous daily experiments, typically of an extremely poorly-planned nature. Despite its inherent nature as a toon enterprise, it has nevertheless managed to somehow make breakthrough discoveries and pioneer world-changing inventions, such as the universal dehydration method and the many properties of the element bolognium.

Origins

Welcome, one and all, to the great and grand reopening of, aha, of this! Toon Town's finest and foremost facility for factual discovery and scientific advancement, and we shall toast to... dear me, do hold on... one second... confounded botheration, I seem to have misplaced my spectacles. Which means the question, the all-important question, is whether this is the bottle of champagne... or that beaker of highly volatile nitroglycerin I had in my grasp but a moment before? Ah, well! – Archimedes Quack

The institute was founded in 1932 by toon scientist Archimedes Quack, after his sudden and explosive departure from Inkwell University. Quack took his landing in Schnooklyn as a sign that he should continue his work there, having handily freed up a plot of land via impact crater. Initially called Archimedes Laboratories, repeated explosions and mishaps took their toll on the signage until only the letters ACME remained. Quack accepted that the abbreviated name would make replacing the sign cheaper and quicker, and formally adopted the name in 1938.
